
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has been honoured with the prestigious OPAL Award for Excellent Performance by the St. Maria Goretti Old Girls Association, in recognition of his administration’s developmental strides and commitment to good governance in Edo State.
The award, is the second soon after the Governor was conferred with the 2025 New Telegraph Newspaper Best Governor of the Year Award in Education was conferred on him.
The OPAL Award for Excellent Performance was presented during the 2026 SMAGOGA Awards and Alumni Gala Night held at the prestigious Madison Place in Victoria Island, where distinguished alumni and guests gathered to celebrate excellence, leadership, and service.
The honour was received on behalf of Governor Okpebholo by Lady Omorede Osifo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Mobilization, who represented the Edo State Government at the colourful ceremony.
Speaking after receiving the award, Osifo conveyed the appreciation of the governor to the association for recognising the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition Edo State through people-oriented policies and sustainable development initiatives.
Governor Okpebholo noted that the recognition by an influential alumni body such as SMAGOGA further reinforces his administration’s resolve to continue implementing programmes that improve infrastructure, empower citizens, and strengthen institutions across the state.
He emphasized that his government remains committed to delivering inclusive governance and meaningful development that will positively impact communities in every part of Edo State.
The St. Maria Goretti Girls’ Grammar School alumni association is widely known for promoting education, empowering women, and supporting initiatives that contribute to societal progress.
The event attracted members of the SMAGOGA alumni network, corporate leaders, professionals, and notable Nigerians who gathered to celebrate leadership, service, and the enduring legacy of the institution.
Governor Okpebholo described the recognition as a collective honour for the people of Edo State and reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining policies and programmes that will continue to drive the state’s growth and development.
