The Edo State Government has intensified its crackdown on street homelessness among the mentally challenged, rescuing 12 individuals in a fresh operation across parts of Benin City.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Bisi Idaomi Esq., said the Sen. Monday Okpebholo-led administration is determined to protect the dignity, health, and social well-being of all residents, pledging that “no one will be left behind.”
Director of the Department of Rehabilitation, Mr. Sylvester Okoeguale, disclosed that the rescued persons have been moved to rehabilitation homes for treatment and recovery. He revealed that the government is partnering with 12 centres across the state to provide care, with several recovered individuals already reunited with their families.
Okoeguale noted that the latest operation is part of a broader plan to sweep all three senatorial districts, urging families to show love and seek professional psychiatric help for affected relatives. He stressed that with proper care, persons with mental health challenges can live normal, dignified lives.
